Sell Your Art Online – Why You Should Consider It

December 15th, 2009

Being an artist myself, I know how hard it can be to sell your art in the real world that is one reason you might what to try to sell your art online. A few years ago I decided to start selling my art online and I’m glad I did. Now, I’m not getting rich doing this, but I have made more sells online than I ever did in the real world. Plus I don’t have schlep my artwork from place to place. Lets just take a look at some reasons you should consider selling your art online. Convenience In the real world you have to sale your art in galleries, art festivals, fairs, libraries or any place that will allow you to place your art and sell it. Now consider you have to pack up your artwork and carry it to these places and in some of cases hung the work yourself. Also consider that the pieces that don’t sale you have to take them down, pack them up and carry them back to your home or studio However, when you sell your art online you just put up some photos of your artwork on a website with some information on the size, medium and price and depending on where you put it you may be able to keep your artwork there indefinitely. Even if the artwork doesn’t sale on a site where it has to be removed, all you have to remove is a photo and some information. No packing and no carrying bulky paintings back and forth. You Have Total Control By selling your art online you take over total control of your art career. No more middlemen telling you how much to price your art for and then taking a cut of your money when the art sells. Galleries will take anywhere from a 40 to 50% cut of your art sales. Art Festivals will charge any where from $200 to $500 fees just to be in the festival and demand that you have a certain amount of inventory, which you have to pay for. If you don’t sell anything at the festival you are just out all of that money. If you sell your art online you can decide when where and how long you have your art up on a website and although there are some sites that may charge you to have your art on them, most of the places are free and the ones that do charge it’s usually a very small amount. Also most places where you can sell your art online will let you set your own price and won’t charge you a commission. So you can keep 100% of your art sells. Also on most places that allow you to put art on their sites, you can put up as many or as little as you want. A Worldwide Customer Base When selling your art in the real world your art sales are usually limited to the place where your art is at the moment. If you are exhibiting at a gallery your art sales are limited to that gallery and the people that come into that gallery. If your art is being shown at a fair your art sales are limited to the people that see your art at that fair. I think you get the picture. For the must part in the real world your art sales is going to be limited to local or regional sales. On the Internet you have a worldwide audience to market your art to. Because of selling my art online I now have my artwork in Japan, France, Great Britain, Canada and other places that I would not have been able to reach in the real world. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world you will be able to reach people from different countries. An artist in Italy can sell a piece of art to a buyer Russia or an artist in India can sell a painting to a buyer in the United States. Your online presence is your art gallery to the world. I’m not saying not to sell your art in the real world, but as you can see by opting to sell your art online you have more control and a wider buyer reach. However there’s no reason you can’t do both.

Contemporary art has gained a significant importance in modern households. It has become very popular in contemporary households and is recognized in every aspect of human life. Contemporary art has been omnipresent; it is recognized as a tool for interpersonal communication and has had far reaching effects. The increased attendance in art exhibitions and unprecedented sales of various art forms signifies the importance contemporary art has been receiving. It is an indicator about the awareness of art amongst the general public. The major reason of success of contemporary art is that it is easily understood and appreciated by the masses. The accessibility has become easy for the masses as it is released in numerous copies and forms like disks and books etc. Such mass production of art has made art more popular, while preserving its unique values. Original paintings which were a distant dream for common people at one time are now accessible through galleries. It has further increased the number of admirers for the art. However there is an argument raised by the contemporary art critics about reservation of some art form for certain group of people. Their argument is that the true appreciation of some art form can come only from some people who can understand them. In other words an artist can only understand the value of an art. This might be true in some cases but not in all, as a creator would like to get appreciated from as many people as possible. Modern art works today are created by many people, and are made for many people. There are various examples of successful groups who present art together and to as many people as possible. Thus, it can be easily concluded that contemporary art forms will continue to express publicly understood ideas so as to be appreciated by as many as possible. A play, a novel, a music composition, film, or a painting can be successful irrespective of the views of artists or critics. It solely depends how it has been able to touch your emotions and has expressed itself to the general public. There are various ways of acquiring modern art today . Online auctions are one of the ways where by abstract arts, oil-based painting, and impression arts can be purchased. Before buying any art form it is necessary to do some homework on what art you would like to collect and what appreciation you are looking for in that art. One can do any amount of extensive search on the internet for the categories of art forms to be collected. There are some other ways also like libraries, magazines etc which can give you more information about your favorite category. One has to be really careful while purchasing art as there are lots of fakes circulating for a popular art. However one way to find about the genuineness of the art is to appoint an appraiser for the art you would like to purchase. Big auction houses like Sotheby uses the same technique for all the art forms before putting it up for sale. Online auctions like eBay are the tricky ones, and in this case you should directly communicate with the art seller to find out more about the art. Online art auctions usually keep a track record of the art seller’s sales history and can help you to determine whether the seller is a reputable person.

Advantages Of Making Your Own Wall Art

November 9th, 2009

http://www.canvasdezign.co.uk/impress-guests-modern-wall-art-canvas.php”>Wall art include such things, as paintings and murals, but the new kid in the block is canvas art, which is basically an art form where normal still photos, digital photos or even your kid’s drawings is printed onto canvas. Printers that have been adapted by major companies such as Canon, Epson and HP to accept canvas do this. Other mediums can be used too, but canvas has a few advantages over other mediums such as its cheap cost and availability and the fact that you can customize it to fit your specific needs. Canvas is also long lasting and has an esthetic value that is hard to find in other mediums.

The major advantage of making your own wall art is that the item is more personalized since you do it to fit your specific needs. Although buying from a shop has its advantages, you will end up with art that you may come to despise later because it was not really made for you. When you decide to print to canvas, you can do it yourself or you can get a print house to do so. There are advantages and disadvantages of both and you should make your decision based mostly on the money you want use.

Another advantage of making your own wall art is that you can have a project that you can be proud off. It is always a good feeling to boast to your friends that you are responsible for the work that they are praising. If you have a full time job or you have a family, which is takes up most of your time, such a project is a good way to unwind and another reason why you should do it is so as to get skills that practice makes perfect – and who knows, maybe one day your work will be a collector’s item. A wave has started in New York City where investors are making canvas art collector items and you may be a few pictures away from making it big.

Another advantage is that you can do whatever you want with the canvas art and no one can tell you that you are wrong. You can cut yourself free from society’s tight grip and express yourself the way you want.

Yet another reason why you should consider putting print to canvas on your own to minimize the cost because print houses usually overcharge on the materials and the service and there are also other expenses such as transportation costs.

You should however note that making a print to canvas on your own has some downsides especially quality issues. You will take a lot of years before you can produce an art form comparable to those done by professionals in print houses. You also do not have a place to fall back on when the work you are doing gets ruined, but print houses have to make corrections at their own cost and you just need to pay the price you had originally agreed on.
